Meet George Jetson

Looks Like The Future Print E-mail

Flying cars, moving sidewalks, and robotic domestic help all seem like a great idea. In the 1960's when the show was originally developed all those cool innovations seemed like they might very well be commonplace in the 21st century where the Jetsons was set. But now we are in the 21st century and none are even close to reality except for those moving sidewalk at the airport. I bet you'd like to walk the dog the way I do!

That's the problem with projecting the future. Change generally happens gradually and the bold wild prognostications rarely happen. The Jetson's view of the future was influenced my the race to the moon and all the other elements of the space program. In addition, lots of architecture in the 1960's reflected this vision.
